alert: 27th January 2009
from George Galloway MP
The response to the aid convoy is overwhelming. On Sunday and Monday
I spoke at meetings of 500 in Rochdale, 1,000 in Bolton and 600
in Manchester. They raised tens of thousands of pounds to be sent
on the convoy to Gaza.
Over 27 vehicles have now signed up and a small group of volunteers
are working flat out on the final details.
So great is the response that we are calling a deadline of midnight
on Friday 30 January
– this Friday – for new vehicles wanting to join. There
is nothing to stop money being collected all the way up to the set
off date and, indeed, beyond it.

support here and, crucially, throughout the Arab world. It is that
that is ultimately the key to the liberation of Palestine.
Political pressure now is also the only way that serious aid is
going to get into Gaza: by forcing the opening of the Egyptian crossing
That’s why the convoy is going through Arab North Africa.
It is by raising high the banner of Palestine there that the pressure
of Arab public opinion can be brought to bear to allow access to
The journey across North Africa is no picnic. It is an arduous campaign
to win the active support the Palestinian people need. But it is
all the more important because of that.
